Step 1

Take your pet's photo

For best results, follow these guidelines:

  • Include the whole head, ears and neck, nothing cropped off. (ex: an ear cropped out of the photo)
  • Pet looking slightly off camera or directly at camera is best.
  • Don't use a photo with eyes closed
  • Include the neck.
  • Make sure nothing is interfering with/overlapping photo. (ex: a finger over part of the dog)
  • Slightly blurry photos sometimes reproduce just fine with the artistic effects. Send the best photo you can and we'll let you know if it will work. (no charge for the consultation)
  • Don't use a flash if possible. Take photos outdoors or in bright light. Flashes cause red-eye. If outdoors, keep sun behind you. We do our best to remove red-eye but it is not always guaranteed to look its best. (if it's all you have, send it and we'll work our magic as best we can)
  • Dark photos can usually be lightened to satisfaction
  • Too much flash/light can over-expose the photo, and blow out the detail. This is sometimes not possible to fix.
  • Can't get your pet to look at you? Bring a really good treat with you for "encouragement." That almost always does the trick. (hint: cheese)

We CAN remove the background.
We CAN lighten or darken the photo.
We CAN remove red-eye. (not preferred)

We CANNOT fix closed eyes.
We CANNOT add ears or other missing parts.

A digital photo is best.
Formats: jpg, eps, pdf, tif, png
(if you have another one, send it. We can probably open it.)

If you only have a printed photo, try scanning it or having someone scan it for you.

If you mail a printed photo, add $7.50 additional scanning fee to digitize your photo.

Mail to: Black Dog Design Co. Custom Order, P.O. Box 212, Wildwood, PA, 15091, along with one of the the order form for the design you are selecting. Print it from this website. Here for Custom Orders.
